Easy on the upkeep
This fenced-in section of footpath was at the corner of Cathedral and Palmer Streets, Woolloomooloo, when Google’s street mappers toured in late 2007.

Not exactly inviting. But several months ago it sprouted a carpet of astroturf, several pot plants and a Hill’s Hoist.

I thought it was public art. Turns out it’s Guerrilla Gardeners.

The Guerrilla Gardening reminds me of a festival that a friend in Prague came across in late August this year:
Names Fest
He also wrote:
“On my ride into Karlín I go past a huge industrial area. Over the last few months people have been putting up some good graffiti while other people (mainly the homeless) deconstruct the buildings for valuable scrap metal. …”
Although I don’t wish for Australia to have the social conditions which would lead to homeless people finding it necessary to tear apart buildings to survive, it would be interesting to see a local take on it…

Thanks all.
They’ve reappeared at the corner of South Dowling Street and Cleveland Street. On the traffic island above the Eastern Distributor, two halves of a VW Beetle have been turned into garden beds on either side of the intersection.
