Festive but somewhat mysterious pot plants
These planters appeared at the overlap of Darlinghurst Road and Victoria Street, above the William Street tunnel, a couple of weeks ago.

They’re on either side of the road.

An urban landscaper’s answer to sucking the carbon out of a busy crossway or just premature christmas decorations? Who knows.
Update
Looks like this is the first step for the council’s 2007 city east local action plan.
Create greener streets with more trees. Upgrade landscaping in traffic islands, planter boxes and public domain garden beds. Council is now beginning a program of planting of flowers in medians and suitable kerbside planting places and opportunities for community involvement in flower care will be explored.
Update 2
Melbourne’s Design Files – on holidays in Sydney – picked up on the new planters too:
The streets of Darlinghurst are so green and full of lush plant life. I love these cascading planter boxes – aren’t they stunning? ….got me planning all kinds of garden renovation when I get home!

They try to do this all the time in the city, like outside Town hall, QVB, Pitt St Mall etc. Nice idea but people (ratbags) just come along and steal/ruin them.
Sydney City council is meant to be one of the highest earners!

They must have expected people stealing/ruining though, right? Looked on the weekend and they’re gone!
