Guerrilla garden without the hype
Last night, we wandered down the dead end of Thomson Street, in Darlinghurst, to be welcomed by this adorable garden.

I went back today and spoke to one of the residents, who said his neighbour planted the garden 10 years ago, and continues to maintain it with TLC.

He has an “arrangement” with council, who turn a blind eye to its existence. Good on you, City of Sydney Council. And good on you, resident of Thomson Street. It’s just delightful.

Such a pleasant oasis by day, though typically, according to my source, another seedy back lane by night.
Butterflies mob man in shady lane
Another afternoon, another character walking down a quiet lane.

This time it’s on Clarkson’s Mill Way, a tiny lane – really just a pedestrian path behind some terraces – that links Darley Street and Darlinghurst Road in Darlinghurst.

He looks downcast. GFC victim? Things must be looking up though, he’s being mobbed by butterflies.
Take it home and see if it works: car door
I can’t help but think about cast-offs in the street.

This car door was sitting on Burton Street (near Thomson) in Darlinghurst yesterday. Leaned up against an old pigeon-hole cabinet with an old blanket swung over the top, it was a snapshot of some other place. A bit of country NSW in town, maybe.
Torn from a car by a thief, remnant of a back-room mechanic’s operation gone wrong? Replaced? So many questions.
Walking on the block
Okay, so my co-blogger saw this and passed, thinking we’d played out on stencils.
She may have a point. But it’s good.

Just people walking on the block. Checking out a Lily Allen tour poster. Heading over to Messina for a gelato.

This is on the corner of Burton and Victoria Streets in Darlinghurst.
Update: spotted a much more produced sticker version of this on a pole outside the Darlo Bar. It’s Mini Graff, which I should have realised.
Someone has to make a start
Motivational message spotted on Gurney Street, in Paddington.

Looks like the work of Canberra girl Hanna Davies…
