Frozen yoghurt anyone?

with one comment

It seems frozen yoghurt is the latest craze to hit the ‘hood, and it takes me back to days of my childhood, enjoying “California Yoghurt”. Igloo Zoo opened on the corner of Greenknowe Av and Macleay St, Potts Point in January this year.

They have 3 flavours, green tea, pomegranate and original and then a whole heap of toppings, including organic chocolate shavings, halva, guava and pomegranate seeds, from which to choose.

Last week, Wow Cow opened on Darlinghurst Rd, opposite Tropicana. They were dishing up chocolate and original flavours with a choice of toppings including coco pops, oreo, tim tam and fruit loops (???).

Hmm.

Think I would cross the road and head to Messina anyday.

Blogging on architecture and urbanism

Just discovered Darlinghurst Nights is listed as one of the Top 10 Australian Architecture and Urbanism Blogs.

Wow. I was shocked when I picked up the link back to our page.

What about Dan Hill’s City of Sound (check out the awesome new article on electric cars and noise), Marcus Trimble’s Super Colossal, Butterpaper?

Turns out they’re all in there. It was compiled by Marcus, who lives in the area – thanks! And welcome if you’ve just followed Marcus’s link.

When o when is Pelagio re-opening?

As the sign in the window says, Pelagio has been closed now since 11th March.

I get an occasional glimpse inside, when I’m walking past, and it looks as though it is being completely re-fit.

But when are you going to re-open? Anyone?

What we want is ramen

with 3 comments

A new Japanese place, Harumi, has just opened up on Darlinghurst Road. We dined there on the weekend, and it is pretty good, although what I really crave is a local ramen house. Harumi occupies a space which has seemed doomed in the past couple of years. It was recently vacated by Pasion cafe. Before this, it was a burger joint and further back, a fish and chips place. Let’s hope Harumi can make this work.

In other exciting (and optimistic) news, a second Japanese restaurant, Sushi Yachiyo, is set to open on the haunted corner of Kirketon Road and Craigend Street.

Weirdly, the menu and prices all look pretty similar to that of Harumi.

RAMEN PEOPLE! WHAT WE WANT IS RAMEN!

The C word

with one comment

Two ‘c’ words from very different ends of the street art spectrum.

One is a quaint (and informative) chalk piece I noticed on the wall of a house on Oswald Lane, Darlinghurst.

The other is Andy Uprock’s latest offering, on the corner of Flinders and South Dowling streets. I hope his cups are recycled, or at least biodegradable.
