Cafe 9 and the coffee is fine
Cafe 9, sorry, No. 9, at 9 Ward Av, Potts Point/Kings Cross opened its doors a couple of weeks ago.

Already, I can’t remember what used to occupy the spot, just up from the corner at Roslyn Street.
It is tiny inside but makes excellent use of the space with a mezzanine level.

It is intimate and feels like you are in someone’s fancy sitting room, with elaborately framed landscape and portrait artworks, a fire, a chandelier, an antique clock.

We just stopped in for (Genovese) coffee.

But I do like the look of the simple breakfast menu.

$7 for OJ?

Looks like an old repurposed bordello!

Had breakfast there on the weekend. Expensive yes, but delicious and hands down best coffee I’ve had in an eternity.

its actually called No.9…far too chic to be called a cafe.
…and the OJ is organic.

That used to be one of the pot selling cafes. Was shut down and renamed every 6 months or whenever the Tele needed to raise indignation in the suburbs

Yeah, used to be the place for smoko – That Slavo was one big dick head.
Exquisite decor but a little overdone.

Spotted the nice chairs on the way to work this morning, doubled back for a glimpse, looks quite elegant. Will polish my shoes and check it out next week.

Lane is not the co-owner, he is the waiter/operator.
Had the pancakes the other day, very nice.
They should open as a wine bar in the evenings, we need a place to like this that we can call home after work.

Went back to try the re-opened fare last weekend and very impressed by the pancakes – was a little apprehensive about the price and when they arrived the plate looked a little underwhelming, but in fact they were totally delicious. I’ll definitely be back but I totally agree that $7 for a small glass or orange juice is a joke – I hope the guys sort this out as it’s really taking the organic piss! Mary on staff is an added bonus, she’s an absolute gem.
