Back in the pink

I saw an almost destroyed memorial to “AC/DC Tour Manager, Kit” near the corner of Ryder Street and Taggarts Lane, Surry Hills, across the road from the Hope Street Mission.

InvisbleMan

The Invisible Man is back.

InvisbleMan2

On Taggarts Lane, I noticed a hint of a pink triangle.

InvisbleMan3

It was the same tribute.

Art by the Invisible Man, ’09

Each of the Invisible Man’s triangle plaques are different from those before. But the writing seems distinctive, and it seems unlikely to be a copycat.

  1. Has anyone else had “Invisible Man” artworks hand-delivered to their home?

  2. [...] or ‘invisible man’ every day for the past month or so. And at least one report, in the comments, of hand delivered material from Invisible [...]

  4. Me too — the letter several months before the sculpture. Only with the sculpture did I make a connection with this site. I think it must have been through comments [posted here that the Invisible Man found my address.

  5. @Colin have you posted your address or full details in a comment anywhere here?

  6. @matt Not my full address, but usually I comment with a website and my full name, and it wouldn’t be hard to get my full details from that.

  7. My sculpture appeared delivered to my door, the letter some weeks later, and I had never heard of the website, so my name was obtained elsewhere. There are a couple of plaques near my home though.

  8. It’s akind of hard to pursue this conversation in public like this, but – um – were you creeped out? That is, both my letter and my sculpture had a fair amount of sexual explicitness and until I made the connection with this web site I was very uneasy. My partner wanted me to call the police.

  9. My sculpture was incredibly explicit. At first I thought gay-hater but the other plaques seem to be about the IM’s concern for the underdogs. I did take it to the police as there were some threatening kinds of messages, but they thought I was having them on. Do call the police as I think it’s getting weird for a few of us and someone should keep a tab.

  10. It sounds as if our sculptures were similar, and the letters too. I live quite a way away from Darlinghurst and have no Darlinghurst – or Gay scene – connections I can think of offhand. I did phone the police, but they were remarkably uninterested. I wonder if we’re teh only two recipients.

  12. There is a bunch of smiths in my Flickr set http://www.flickr.com/photos/newtown_grafitti/4424536540/in/set-72157623733448735/

There are similarities in style to the Damien series but nothing to specifically indicate they are all by the same person. All these were seen in the Enmore-Newtown-Darlinghurst district over the last few months. They are geolocated so click on the map link to see where each one is. There are far more smiths about but I stopped collecting them after they became repetitive.

In a couple of cases a Smith and a Damien were glued next to one another.

  13. Correction: not the Enmore-Newtown-Darlinghurst district, but the Enmore-Newtown-Erskineville district.
